Registry-style ceremonies by civil celebrants, not a government registry office. No fuss, no frills, no wedding. Just paperwork.

Changing Your Name After Marriage

You do not have to change your name after marriage.

If you want to take your spouse’s surname

Many organisations will ask for the official marriage certificate issued by Births, Deaths and Marriages Queensland.

If you want a different name arrangement

If you want something other than taking your spouse’s surname, you may need a formal change of name through the relevant registry office.
