Registry-style ceremonies by civil celebrants, not a government registry office. No fuss, no frills, no wedding. Just paperwork.

Frequently asked questions

Are you a government registry?

No. Mackay Marriage Office is a private celebrant service offering a registry-style, paperwork-only marriage option.

What kind of service is this?

This is a short legal marriage service for couples who want to get married without a full wedding ceremony.

How do we get started?

Click the Get Married link, fill out the booking form, and pay the fee. That starts the process.

What happens after we book?

After booking, you prepare your NOIM, have it witnessed by an authorised witness, and send the paperwork to us. Once we receive it, we confirm the date, time, and place based on availability.

Do we need a Notice of Intended Marriage?

Yes. Every legal marriage in Australia needs a NOIM. It must be given to the celebrant at least one month before the marriage and can be given up to 18 months before.

Can one of us sign the NOIM first?

Yes, if the other signature cannot conveniently be obtained at least one month before the marriage. The other person must still sign before the marriage is solemnised.

Can we get married online?

No. In Australia, both people, the celebrant, and the witnesses must be physically present for the marriage.

Do we need witnesses?

Yes. You need two witnesses who are 18 or older. If you do not have them, we can help with a witness service.

Do you do full ceremonies or weddings?

No. We only do the legal marriage. If you want a full ceremony, book Josh Withers instead.

Do you do elopements?

No. If you want an elopement experience rather than a paperwork-only marriage, book the Elopement Collective.

Do we need to be Australian citizens or residents?

No. There is no citizenship or residency requirement to get married in Australia, as long as you meet the legal requirements.

Can we get married in less than one month?

Only if a prescribed authority approves a shortening of time. That only happens in limited circumstances and is never guaranteed.

When do we get our marriage certificate?

You receive a ceremonial certificate on the day. The official certificate is ordered separately through Births, Deaths and Marriages Queensland.
