Shortening of Time for Marriage
A shortening of time is permission to marry with less than one month’s notice.
We cannot approve that for you.
Before anything else
Your NOIM must already have been given before a shortening of time can be considered.
The official categories
The Marriage Regulations set out five broad categories:
- employment-related or other travel commitments
- wedding or celebration arrangements
- medical reasons
- legal proceedings
- error in giving notice
Important to know
- A shortening of time is never guaranteed.
- It is decided by a prescribed authority, not by us.
- You will need evidence to support the request.
If you think this applies to you, read the official guidance and ask us what paperwork we need from you.
Ready to get married?
Click the Get Married link to get started. You book and pay first, then prepare your NOIM, have it witnessed, and send it to us. Once we receive the paperwork, we confirm the date, time, and place based on availability. We are private celebrants, not a government registry. Need a full ceremony? Josh Withers. Need an elopement? Elopement Collective.
